“Siegfried & Roy” legend has passed away

After Roy died in May of last year, his former magician or tamer colleague and life partner Siegfried Fischbacher now also had health problems. The now 81-year-old is said to be suffering from pancreatic cancer. According to information from the BILD newspaper, he has now died in Las Vegas. But what are the exact circumstances of his death and what has the exceptional duo achieved in his life? As the BILD newspaper reports, the former magician Siegfried Fischbacher was operated on over a period of twelve hours to remove a malignant tumor. A short time after the entertainer was released from the hospital, he has now probably passed away. At least that’s what the BILD newspaper is reporting these days.

Pancreatic cancer – with no prospect of a cure

The 81-year-old Siegfried Fischbacher is said to have been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, according to information from the BILD newspaper. During a twelve-hour operation, it was found that the cancer had spread. So there was no chance of a cure. The successful entertainer then wanted to leave the hospital at his own request in order to be able to calmly prepare for his imminent death.

Siegfried Fischbacher spent his twilight years on his impressive “Little Bavaria” estate in Las Vegas. He had previously lived here for four decades with his partner Roy Horn, who died in May last year at the age of only 75. Most recently, Fischbacher is said to have been visited daily by a priest. In addition, two hospice nurses were probably already looking after him. Siegfried’s sister, Dolore (78), told the BILD newspaper: “He was hit gently and peacefully”. The artist’s death was therefore a relief.

Siegfried was not afraid of death

The BILD newspaper quotes a good friend of Fischbacher’s who claims that the former magician and entertainer was not afraid of death. Instead, according to the friend’s statement, Siegfried had “81 great years of life and was reconciled with everyone”. Nonetheless, the native of Rosenheim would of course have wished that he had had a little more time on earth.

Siegfried Fischbacher was born on June 13, 1939 in Rosenheim, Bavaria. Both became famous worldwide for their magic and tamer shows. In the course of their careers they have received numerous awards such as the title “Magician of the Century”. At the age of only eight he started doing magic tricks.

Over 25 million live viewers

To this day, the show “Siegfried & Roy at The Mirage” is considered the most popular show in Las Vegas. In 1996, the magic duo celebrated their 15,000th appearance in the gambling metropolis Las Vegas. Just recently we covered the dark and criminal side of Las Vegas. Overall, the artists were active on the stage in Nevada, America, for a period of around 30 years. During this time, over 25 million people saw their shows. They achieved great fame by breeding so-called “White King Tigers” and having them appear in their shows.

Career end after tiger attack

In 2003 there was a momentous attack during one of the many “Mirage shows” in which Roy was attacked by a tiger and seriously injured. From the beginning, the treating doctors described it as a miracle that the magician even survived the attack. Over the years there have been many rumors about how the accident came about. While some spectators stated that the white tiger “Montecore” was nervous from the start on the day of the accident, the tamer himself was probably not in top form that day either. The day before he celebrated his birthday.

The show “Mirage – Siegfried & Roy at the Mirage” is still the most popular show in Las Vegas to this day. A total of around 10.5 million viewers from all over the world saw the 100-minute show, which was shown a total of 5,750 times in the Mirage Hotel & Resort from February 1990 to February 3, 2003.

On February 28, 2009, Siegfried and Roy had their last stage appearance. The special thing: During the short appearance, the two exceptional talents did not speak a word to each other and thus said goodbye to their fans all over the world in silence. It wasn’t until 2007 that the two magicians publicly confessed to their homosexuality in an interview.

Conclusion

After the world-famous Roy Uwe Ludwig Horn died last year at the age of only 75, the remaining magician legend Siegfried Fischbacher has now also died of pancreatic cancer. At least that’s what the BILD newspaper reported, citing Siegfried Fischbacher’s sister. One can only hope that the 81-year-old was able to have a painless and peaceful farewell. Both Siegfried Fischbacher and Roy Horn can be proud of their résumés. No other show in Las Vegas inspired more people than that of the German-American entertainer duo.
